Jill Brewer says the INCA Summer Institute is a stepping stone that will take her from a decade working with First Nations exhibits in a museum to working with real people in the community. Jill is originally from Alberta, where she taught a variety of traditional, contemporary and professional skills for the Native art market. She moved to Regina in 1994 to attend the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College (SIFC), and then took a position at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum that kept her busy for 12 years. She is developing her journalism skills so she can devote herself to something she feels passionate about.

Penny Smoke is originally from the Fishing Lake First Nation, but grew up between Kawacatoose First Nation and Regina. She says she has always been a storyteller and the INCA Summer Institute is teaching her new ways to tell stories. Penny is going into her third year of studies, and will graduate with a major in Indigenous Studies and a minor in Indian Communication Arts (INCA). When she finishes university, Penny will become a broadcast journalist, and hopes to work for APTN.

Carmen Ratt is taking the Summer Institute because she wants to develop her portfolio and get experience that will help her complete her film degree. Carmen is from Pelican Narrows, Saskatchewan. She will complete an internship this summer, with the goal of gaining experience in camera work, lighting, editing and writing.
